ABOUT US
As the region’s professional orchestra, The Long Bay Symphony is committed to serving as a cultural leader, providing the impetus and vision necessary for continued growth within this flourishing arts community, and is dedicated to providing educational opportunities for citizens of all ages. The Youth Orchestra and various educational programming remain top priorities as we strive to enhance the quality of cultural life for all area residents and invest in the region’s artistic future. Now celebrating its 22nd Anniversary Season, The Long Bay Symphony was founded in 1987 by Dr. Diana Swanner Scroggins, a local music storeowner. The Long Bay Symphony has, during its entire history, considered educational programming for both young people and adults as a significant part of its mission. To that end, the Youth Orchestra was founded in 1990. The Symphony has initiated other educational programs for the region including Young People’s Concerts and a Musicians in the Schools program. Last season a major fundraising initiative, the 20th Anniversary Community Campaign, was instituted to help ensure optimum financial stability and a future of increased opportunities for artistic and educational excellence.
