The Long Bay Symphony is proud to announce its

Purpose and Goal of the 20th Anniversary Community Campaign
This Plan seeks to provide new and continuing avenues for funding the Symphony’s exemplary musical performances, and educational programs in our area’s schools, through an organized, multi-tiered program offering a variety of giving options, cash, pledges, in-kind and legacy giving, tailored to meet donor preferences.  It is structured to provide a base on which to build toward an endowment fund in our 25th year.

Goal for the Future:

$500,000 over 5 years
(To supplement Annual Fund contributions)

Background
This year, 2007, is the twentieth anniversary year for The Long Bay Symphony, one of the longest-lived musical arts organizations in the area.  The Long Bay Symphony, like the vast majority of such all-professional organizations nationally, has ongoing operating and financial obligations throughout the calendar year.  Those operating obligations are met through a combination of income-producing efforts, such as the following:

  • Fundraising efforts of the Symphony Guild & Friends of the Symphony
  • Sponsorships from civic-minded companies & professional groups in the community who desire to ensure and enhance the area’s quality of life for all
  • The Symphony’s annual fund campaign supporting operations
  • Subscription ticket sales & single admission ticket sales
  • Public monies (available through annual application, such as Accommodations Tax funding)
  • Grants from foundations that support the arts and education (obtained through application)

Current Situation
As with any symphony, ticket sales do not cover (and have never covered) the costs of providing performances, which must be sustained by a combination of other funding sources.  In recent years, public monies in support of the cultural arts have continued a downward and ever-decreasing trend as funds are diverted to other civic needs.  Funding in the public schools for music education continues to decline, a factor putting increasing demands on the Symphony’s efforts for music education for area youth.  All these factors compromise the Symphony’s mission.  Major donors have been generous, but few. We are asking the community to help because only by their generosity will our efforts be sustained.

We ask for your participation in our effort to increase private and corporate gifts, which remain much lower than national averages for symphonies our size. The area has enjoyed a continuing growth trend; as a result, the Symphony’s performances and educational efforts are enjoying an all-time high level of attendance.

The community knows how important the gift of music is.  We ask those who have affinity to our mission to make a multi-year pledge to help us plan the Symphony’s future.

After the success of years of effort to build our quality and audience, the Symphony is now challenged to develop ongoing support that will sustain our mission into the future.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
