The idea of the heroic arc has captivated, inspired, and drawn humanity for millennia, shaping stories across cultures and generations. Inspired by Joseph Campbell and his concept of the monomyth, this unique and electrifying concert brings the journey of the hero vividly to life through some of your favorite music from film, video games and television. Featuring a newly crafted narrative written specifically for this performance by local authors Kelly Capriotti Burton, Lisa Borne Graves, Maegwen Salley-Massie, and Caleb Wygal, the evening blends symphonic storytelling with cinematic spectacle in a way that is uniquely rooted in Horry County’s own creative voice. From moments of quiet discovery to epic clashes and soaring triumphs, audiences will be pulled into a world of adventure, transformation, and destiny. Come see, listen, and experience the trials, tribulations, and ultimately the triumph of our Hero in a night of music and storytelling you won’t forget.

Fly with us to a night under the Parisian sky. Featuring Jazz classics like La Vie En Rose and Nuages, The Long Bay Jazz Ensemble will transport you to the City of Love in this entrancing Candlelight Concert.

In this dynamic finale to our Masterworks Concert Series, conducted by Kyle Dickson, Music Director Finalist, the program embodies the richness of new beginnings, reimagined possibilities, and a celebration of both past and future. Christopher Theofanidis’s Rainbow Body opens the program with brilliantly colored orchestration, reflecting the idea of rebirth and renewal. Based on the melody of “Ave Maria” by Hildegard of Bingen, the work draws on Buddhist concepts of passing on and being reborn as pure light and energy, reabsorbed into the universe. Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto follows, written during a time of reinvention in Europe as nations moved toward the revolutions of 1848, a period marked by calls for reform, constitutional government, and greater freedom. Florence Price’s Dances in the Canebrakes pays homage to the Deep South while continuing the thread of dance music in a distinctly different voice, contrasting earlier traditions such as Stravinsky’s Firebird. The program culminates with Igor Stravinsky’s Firebird, a vivid musical portrayal of death and rebirth, imprisonment and liberation, following the journey from dark, ominous beginnings to a triumphant, uplifting finale as the kingdom is freed from the oppressive rule of Kashei.

American Conductor Kyle Dickson has built a reputation as a dynamic musical force on and off the podium. He is Assistant Conductor of the Memphis Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Memphis Youth Symphony. From 2021-2023, Dickson was a Salonen Fellow with the San Francisco Symphony under the guidance of Music Director Esa-Pekka.

Join us for a night of wonder and whimsy in collaboration with the Palmetto Literacy Council! Featuring the Long Bay Symphony String Quartet, this enchanting program brings the myths, fairy tales, and tall tales of your childhood to life, accompanied by carefully curated music.

The Rotary Club of Myrtle Beach’s benefit concert Bravo Broadway! returns once again, bringing the excitement, glamour, and unforgettable music of Broadway to the Long Bay Symphony stage. Featuring leading stars from the Broadway world, this spectacular evening celebrates the songs and performances that have defined generations of musical theater. In addition to their acclaimed Broadway careers, these legendary performers have appeared in concert with symphony orchestras across the globe, captivating audiences with their extraordinary talent and stage presence. Joined by Daniel Black, guest conductor, the Long Bay Symphony presents a dazzling tribute to some of the ultimate legends of the Broadway stage in an evening filled with iconic music, powerful performances, and Broadway magic!

Experience a program of elegance, color, and expressive flow in our second Masterworks concert, conducted by Nadège Foofat, Music Director Finalist, and featuring the Carolina Master Chorale. The evening opens with Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps, filled with lightness and vitality as its shimmering textures create a sense of effortless motion. This is followed by Maurice Ravel’s Le Tombeau de Couperin, a work of refined elegance and luminous orchestral color inspired by the French Baroque tradition. Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune expands the sound world even further, unfolding in a fluid and dreamlike atmosphere where time seems to drift freely. In the second half, joined by the Carolina Master Chorale, the orchestra presents Gabriel Fauré’s deeply moving Requiem, a work shaped not by drama but by warmth, lyricism, and quiet reflection. Gentle, intimate and profoundly human, it brings the evening to a peaceful close, while the program as a whole celebrates the beauty of musical flow and the expressive power of orchestral and choral color.

Nadège Foofat has an active guest conducting career across North America. She currently serves as the Artistic Director of Classical at the MSV, a chamber music series based in Winchester, Virginia. She received her Doctor of Music in Orchestral Conducting from the Université de Montréal and a Diplôme de Perfectionnement in contemporary orchestral conducting from the Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana.
